The career of one of Scotland’s most respected advisers in real estate is to be recognised at the 7th annual Scottish Property Awards to be held in Edinburgh on Thursday.

Eric M Young MRICS will be presented with the ultimate individual award, the Business Leadership Award, sponsored by Bank of Scotland, in recognition of his 45-year career as founder and leader of a business which has been at the forefront of Scotland’s commercial property sector.

In December 2019, Young stood down from Eric Young & Co, the business he founded in 1983, and joined Orinsen, a new commercial property agency where he will work alongside an experienced team which is led by his colleague of 28 years, Andy Bain, and former colleagues Tom Forster and Anna Hansen.  Orinsen has been appointed as consultants and asset managers for 12 shopping centres and retail parks with 25 high street agency instructions, in addition to several new purchase, leasing and development projects throughout the UK.

Eric Young and Co was created in 1983 in the back room of 58 George Street, Edinburgh and over the course of the next three decades, Eric Young and Co expanded their services into a business of 35 staff based in Edinburgh operating throughout the British Isles.  A significant number of the team have served the business for more than 20 years.

Fiona Morton, chair of the judging panel commented;

“The Business Leadership Award seeks to recognise an outstanding and inspirational individual who has made a significant impact on the overall success of a real estate business during their career.  I would like to extend my congratulations to  Eric Young who has earned enormous respect for not just building a business with a long-serving team but also in driving positive change throughout his 45-year career as one of the industry’s most respected advisers.”

Eric Young will collect the award on Thursday night at the EICC.  This week’s event is the largest Scottish Property Awards ever staged in its 7th year history with 820 guests and 18 awards presented, including the highly sought after Property Company of the Year, sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland.
